Q & A with Anne

What time do you like to be at your desk?

I’m an early bird! My most productive hours are in the morning, so I’m often at the computer by 6:30 or 7 am.

Proudest professional achievement?

While writing a book is definitely near the top of the list, I still get chills when I think of some of the photo shoots I’ve directed. It’s not every day that you have an excuse to rent a camel and take him to the beach!

Power lunch or lunch at desk?

Lately for sanity’s sake I’ve been trying to take time away from my desk for lunch, but somehow work always creeps back in while I eat…usually in the form of Instagram!

Favorite design element?

I have such a weakness for chairs. I’m always stumbling across vintage ones that I wish I could take home with me, sort of like stray cats but much more functional! Sadly the house is full (on both the chairs and the cats front).

Favorite NUDE product?

I love Detox Brightenging Fizzy Powder Wash. I like to imagine I'm washing my face with champagne when I use it.

3 key words for entrepreneurial success?

Passion, patience, and persistence.

The best advice you’ve ever received?

When I’m caught in the cycle of anxiety I fall back on the mantra that “Nothing, absolutely nothing, happens in God’s world by mistake.” A line from the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, it’s a reminder to let go of the past, to relinquish worries about the future, and to accept whatever the present moment holds as exactly where you’re meant to be in your journey.

Describe your ideal weekend?

Lazy with a side of waffles!

The favorite item in your house?

My coffee table, a seven-foot-long slab of vintage marble on an oak and brass base. I bought it for a song at the flea market and it’s the first item I purchased for my house after my divorce. It sat in an otherwise empty living room for six months until I could afford more furniture!

Easiest way to transform a space?

Nothing like a good coat of paint on the walls to make a room feel completely new!

What can't you live without in the kitchen?

I use my immersion blender for just about everything: pureeing soups, making cashew cream as an alternative to cheese, even whipping up my favorite grain-free pancake recipe.

A snack you always have on hand?

I’m an apple addict. I eat at least two per day. They’re such a satisfying combination of crunchy, sweet, and refreshing!

Top three design books:

Etcetera by Sibella Court. This globally inspired book by a celebrated Australian stylist is a beautiful object in its own right!

Undecorate by Christine Lemieux. Written by the founder of DwellStudio, the homes in this book are unique and memorable yet utterly relatable too.

Pale and Interesting by Atlanta Bartlett. In my dreams my home consists entirely of soft, neutral hues. This book makes those dreams seem possible!

About Cassidy

Cassidy Blackwell didn’t realize she was at the forefront of a movement when she launched her blog, Natural Selection. She just wanted a place to share with her friends and family her personal journey of going natural. She had been chemically straightening her hair for fifteen years, and was fed up with the expensive and harmful process. When she launched her blog in 2009, she became one of the first bloggers in the natural hair care movement. By chronicling the global culture of natural hair, she invites women to celebrate their unique beauty, as well as their differences. “I hope readers get the message, which is to love and accept themselves just as they are.”

Q & A with Cassidy

What time do you like to be at your desk?

10 am. I’m usually up before teaching Pilates, eating a poached egg or two, taking a run, calling my mom or all of the above.

Proudest professional achievement?

Taking what started as a side hobby and turning it into a career.

Power lunch or lunch at desk?

I always bring my lunch to work, but I try to not eat it at my desk. I take a second to eat and digest instead of focusing on work. I mean, how can I truly focus on an email when while also savoring my home-cooked meal?

Favorite haircare ingredient?

Hydrolyzed wheat protein. It strengthens hair and clumps my hair together in these little teeny coils!

Do you have a haircare routine?

The most crucial part of my hair routine is what I do at bedtime. I’ve been doing the same thing for years and it involves a satin bonnet, a process called “pineappling” and scrunchies.  Watch the routine, here.

3 key words to describe your hair?

Springy. Unique. Fair (if you’re good to her, she’s good to you)

What’s your hair’s theme song?

I used to be a serious product junkie. I gave my hair the name “Lola” because it was like “whatever Lola wants, Lola gets.”

Describe your ideal weekend?

Spending one night involved with fun food and friends, the other night chilling on the couch watching mediocre TV. During the days, I’m getting my fitness on, cooking and enjoying sun.

Who’s your hero?

Anthony Bourdain.  It’s not because he’s been able to travel the world and eat all of the things, but because an incredibly talented writer with a strong, authentic voice.

Adventure you’re dying to take?

Morocco!  D.Y.I.N.G.

The best advice you’ve ever received?

Go natural. I took it and haven’t looked back.

Q & A with Kelly

Your daily breakfast?

Most weekdays I have a green Be Well Smoothie. On the weekends, I love eggs, avocado and pastured bacon or protein pancakes.

Proudest professional achievement?

My client was struggling with amenorrhea for over four years in her late twenties. We started working together and her menstrual cycle returned after four months. It was a powerfully emotional moment.

Power lunch or lunch at desk?

I always take a minute away from my desk to eat; if I don't eat with intention, I can easily scarf down round two. My favorite is a long healthy lunch with good friends and a view.

Favorite kitchen ingredient?

You will always find cans of wild salmon, lemons and cucumbers in my kitchen. I also really love fresh herbs, like dill and cilantro, or spicy condiments.

What is your favorite NUDE Skincare product?

My favorite products right now are the Purify Cleansing Wash and Purify Balancing Moisturizer. When I need to wash my face more than once a day, they aren't drying or too heavy.

Healthiest daily habit?

Sleep! I cherish sleep and work hard to support my natural circadian rhythm. I aim for eight hours, wear blue-light blocking glasses after sunset, use an eye mask and relax and meditate on sleep induction mat before bed.

Any regular wellness/health splurges?

Workout packages. I have open packages to my favorite yoga, Pilates and Hiit studios.

Current health mantra?

Do what you love and stay curious. It’s not about perfection, it's about purpose and passion.

Favorite yoga pose?

Handstand. There are days when I can invert easily and days when it's hard and I tumble to the ground. It's like life, it's about getting back up and trying again.

Moment you fell in love with fitness?

It's a toss up between warm summer nights on a soccer field in high school and Saturday morning Vinyasa Yoga to 90s hip hop in college.

How do you stay inspired?

I am always trying new studios and planning my workouts. I also love workout dates; seeing my girlfriends and getting sweaty midweek always makes me feel better than happy hour and most of my girlfriends feel the same.

Biggest lesson yoga has taught you?

It's never about the destination, it's about the journey. It's a flow and process.

Favorite post-workout fuel?

Right now, anything avocado and protein; an Avocado Be Well Smoothie, or fiery avocado on flax crust or grilled fish tacos with guac.

Describe your ideal weekend?

A good weekend would involve a lot of outdoor activity, good food and time with my husband and girlfriends. There would definitely be a visit to the farmer’s market, a sunset dinner and a yoga class followed by brunch.
