NUDE’s entire range is formulated to avoid skin irritation which is the main cause of premature ageing. During the three years that it took to produce our range we tested every natural preservative that had been approved by certification bodies. We found them to either be irritating or ineffective with our high performance formulations. From our extensive tests we selected safe and non-irritating alternatives, which work in very low doses to preserve our products.
Our preservative system uses a combination of phenoxyethanol, sodium dehydroacetate, dehydroacetic acid, ethylhexylglycerin, potassium sorbate or sodium benzoate and makes up 1.2% or less of each product. Where possible we have used natural preservatives with a quarter of our range naturally preserved with Vitamin E. Our preservative system is the only part of our products where synthetic ingredients are used.
We hope that one day we will find a natural preservative that works with all of our ingredients and is effective and non irritating. When we satisfy all of these criteria we will look at moving the entire range over to 100% natural preservative systems.
NUDE’s use of phenoxyethanol was a conscious decision based on significant research. We use the lowest concentration possible (always under 1%).
