As someone who visits spas up to eight times a year, it takes a lot for a spot to root itself in my mind. But at Lime Wood, the excellent, but unobtrusive staff, elegant décor and touches such as in-room, pre-loaded iPod, all combine to effect the hotel equivalent of a pair of warm, open arms.

The Bamford Signature Treatment involved a full body exfoliation with an invigorating rosemary, lemon and cedar scrub, then a seamless sweeping massage - the sort that fools you into thinking your therapist has four hands. Later, a massage-focused Nude Intense Smoothing Facial rebalanced my tired skin and helped lift dark under-eye circles.
